Impress, On Your First Date.

Love, there are many definitions to it, the one I like most goes like this; “It is a feeling, like walking in the air” and truly it is. The logic behind this feeling is pretty simple; we always want someone who can make us feel good about ourselves and can help us forget the tensions of life, even if for a small moment.
When we get this comforting experience we feel like walking in the air and not to mention this happens only at mutual reciprocations. We too need to make sure that our significant other is having the same feeling. It does not matter much whether we are meeting somebody with a purpose or without, what matters is how nicely we presented ourselves and how pleasing impression we made. A successful journey to marriage starts with a first meeting and a first meeting impression lasts longer than life. It has its natural flow and one needs to follow the stream as it leads to the sea of Love. So how to have this lasting impression on your first date, what to talk what to avoid, what to expect what to limit, how to go about it?

Though it looks as if a lot of homework but in reality it is not, for example the couples who fall in for “Love at first sight” do not hold a Ph. D. degree in successful dating. But of course there is nothing wrong in getting yourself a bit of a makeshift to show your partner that you have a good interest towards relationship and life. So let’s get to the “Thumb Rules”.

Love Story:

Rachna is working lady, creative designer in an Advertising Agency. She is from a well civilized family who give value to cultural trends and traditions. She is good looking, easy going person who respects relationship and understands the value of life. She likes reading books, visiting places and her hobby is photography.
Neel is a gentleman who is into IT, from a well sociable family who respects rich Indian culture and traditions. Though he looks smart, he is polite in his nature. Loves to go to less crowded places, enjoys nature and writing poetry. Except Tennis, his hobby is cooking.

Neel wants go on a date with Rachna and does not know whether Rachna would agree to go on a date with him. Now, do not ask me about how come they know each other, one probable reason would be they are from the same country. Okay, let’s assume that they were introduced by their common friends. On a fine Friday evening, Neel calls up Rachna and asks if she is busy on Saturday? After a pause, when Rachna says she is kind of less occupied, Neel politely invites her for a lunch with him. After another pause, Rachna responds with a positive note that she can come. Neel could not believe his ears that Rachna said “Yes”. He then asks, “How about 11 AM”? “Sure, that would be perfect” she said. They agreed to meet at the Midland Mall, and here starts our “Love Story”.

Neel, being a bit punctual in nature, starts the preparation a day in advance. After visiting the saloon for a businessman’s haircut, he takes out his semi formal, slightly dark teal colour shirt and the relaxed fit light blue jeans. Gives it a round of ironing just to make sure it looks good when he wears this.

On the other hand, Rachna too would not like to be a late comer for any reason. She finishes her ground work and also calls up her friend, Ana, to tell her that tomorrow, she is on a date with Neel. Ana who knows Neel a bit, wishes good luck and shares a tip or two about Neel.

For Neel seems like the Friday is not getting over and he has to wait forever to reach to the next day (Saturday). Just before going to bed once again he makes sure that the preparation is done and he does not have to rush next morning. He is having hard time getting to sleep but eventually he went asleep and wakes up in the morning when the alarm rang. His roommates were surprised (actually irritated) seeing Neel, put alarm on a weekend, but they were in deep sleep to ask any question. Without wasting any further time, Neel gets to work. After a clean shave and a quick shampoo bath, he takes a little more than normal breakfast, just to make sure he would not spend entire time with Rachna eating lunch. After mildly applying his favorite perfume, he shoots off for his “First Date”.

It is around 12 minutes to 11 AM and the Mall is not crowded yet. Stores are wide open but small shop owners are still busy decorating their booth. Again for Neel, it feels as if though time is stuck somewhere, his wrist watch is not making much progress in every second. Although he reached the Mall slightly before time, now he is feeling that he should have come in time instead. His heart rate is pulsating fast and he is getting a bit anxious for the moment. Just to kill the time, he goes to a near by vending machine and gets a pack of chewing gum. Takes out a strip and starts chewing it slowly. This would help in getting rid of any bad breath from already mouth washed mouth. While the watch is making tedious progress towards 11 o’ clock, Neel is looking for Rachna in every possible direction. Just before the clock strikes 11 bangs, Neel, sees a group of people entering through the main entrance and looks for Rachna in there. Feeling a bit restless without finding her, his turns his head but turns back immediately to see someone entered the Mall right behind the crowd and she was none other than the most expected person of the day; Rachna. He quickly trashes his gum in the near by trash bin and starts walking towards her with the same rhythmic heart bit.

On a pale green top with light blue jeans, wearing slight make up, putting a single knot on the perfectly combed hair; Rachna looks simple, relaxed but beautiful. His heart is pounding as Neel is getting closer; he quickly takes a couple of deep breaths to ease out his anxiety. When they reach close enough, Neel says “Hi, Rachna”. “Hi, Neel, I hope I have not made you wait longer”. “Of course not, I just came in couple of minutes back” says Neel and gives a glance to his wrist watch which was running faster now. Neel, while Thanking Rachna for coming to the date, asks whether was there any problem reaching to the Mall. “No, I had already been to this Mall once” says Rachna as they walk towards the restaurant.

Thumb Rules:

On your first date, meeting during the day time instead of evening and at a moderately crowded place helps. Eating out instead of watching a movie together is a far better idea. When you invite, always give options to choose venue and time. Wear good clothes and look good, most of the time we judge a person by the dress he or she is wearing. It is natural due to the way our right brain functions. Reach the place in time, there is absolutely no excuses for reaching late. Thank your date for coming. Do not chew gum while greeting for the first time. Also when you greet, make sure you mean it. Always wear a smile and if you get nervous take some deep breaths to relax. Take is easy and walk with self-confidence (not over confidence), you date would surely appreciate if you show you believe in yourself.

Love Story Continues…

It is the only Asian restaurant in the Mall which offers two kinds of seating arrangements; one inside the Mall with soft lighting, soft music and the other was outside, next to the Midland Lake. With a pleasing view, natural light and swimming ducks, this was the perfect place to have a good lunch with one’s first date. Upon presented with the choice of sitting by the waiter, Neel chooses the outside sitting with an approval from Rachna. They took their seats facing each other. While going over the Menu, Neel suggests “to begin, shall we go with some soup and starters or you would prefer something else? “ Rachna agrees with Neel’s idea and goes for a Hot Chicken Soup. Neel learns that Rachna is not a vegetarian but never expresses any sort of discomfort. Neel places the order.

Then there is a pause, a long one. Both are silent, probably waiting for some firework. Neel, who had already taken several glimpses of the lake, again starts looking at it. Seeing this, Rachna breaks the ice, “You like observing the Nature is not it?” Neel gets surprised “Well, yes but how did you guess it?” “Well I am seeing you observing the lake pretty closely” Neel wakes up and gets a bit cautious, she might be right but there is also a possibility that she is feeling being ignored. He quickly changes the subject with an appreciation and asks “How was your week?” “Pretty well, we just finished one successful campaign and expecting a good business in the remaining quarter.” “Congratulations. You must have put in a lot of hard word to make this happen, I guess” “Well not exactly, it is a team work” says Rachna and asks, “How did your week go?” Neel wanted to share all the hidden beauties of the IT world, the night outs, slipped over project deadlines, unfinished coding, unrealistic design, last minutes changes, known unresolved bugs and above all of these the simply hardly working manager. But he did not say any of these. He said “It was a bit hectic”, “as the project is nearing release, it appears as if things are unshaped and needs a lot of finishing touch.” And the soup arrives, flavorsome and steaming hot.
