Many desi travell other part of this world to realize their American dream. They start their journey with few hundred dollars in their pocket.
many consulting companies before filing your H1b, makes you sign some Bond.
Bond are of various types:
1) if at all you quit within 12 months, you pay 10K usd
2) many take deposit of whole visa cost, and say we will return back, when you complete couple of months
3) there are few who ask for original certificates(never ever work with such companies)
4) there are companies which do not pay you your air ticket, and tell you once u get on project, it will re-imbursed.
All such steps are to protect their profits. Consulting company spends almost 2500-3000 dollars in making your h1b and then spend some for your air ticket. And after all this if consultant quits company in very first month & joins some other company, its a loss for firm.
All these Bonds are meaningless. As per laws, h1b people are not to be kept under such bond. Since people who are coming new to usa are not aware of laws and are more keen on getting settled in early days, consulting firms get chance to talk all in air.
I would strongly recommend, if you are not happy with ur company, quit it, these bonds are meaningless. if your company calls you and gives you warning. Ask them to write a mail of warning. I bet they will never ever give you anything in writing, cos they are just scaring you. As per law they cannot do anything to you.
If you are worried abt loosing deposit money, i would recommend to forget it. If you have a well paying opprtunity which gives more peace of mind, its worth joining new place. Same money you can make it in couple of weeks.
Before you switch jobs, make sure to talk to someone who works for same company. All consulting companies are extremely good at marketing and what they offer you, has no guaranty to come your way.
Its time to do something about this issue which seems to be going on and on. Its time to speak about it more openly. Its time to be more open to talk about some of these contracting firms that feel they have a license to torture the professionals they bring from India.
